EDITING

When you give me your writing to edit, you will get back a work that has clarity, flow, coherence, and meaning. I address not only the small details — such as punctuation, grammar, and word choice — but also the organization and structure of your work, ensuring that what you are wanting to say gets said in a clear, compelling way.

As with the poetry I write, myself, the editing I do for clients makes their work accessible to their readers. Digging out the rocks from the field, I make a path that readers can follow so readily that nothing gets in their way.

I offer a free phone consultation to discuss editing your writing project. Contact me to set up yours: ralphdranow@yahoo.com, or (510) 465-3935 (Pacific Standard Time).

ORAL HISTORY

Doing an oral history — a chronological account of your life — gives you the opportunity to reflect on your life, to see important patterns. It also lets you reminisce, revisiting pleasurable experiences and putting challenging ones into perspective.

To help you get your memories down on paper, I will ask you stimulating and helpful questions to help you bring forth the details that give a full picture of your life. The result will be a publishable manuscript, a legacy that you can leave for your family and friends

POETRY COACHING

Writing poetry does not have to be hard. I explored this view in a video interview. You might be inspired. Watch here

IF YOU’RE NEW TO WRITING POETRY

Have you wanted to write poetry for a long time but felt intimidated by the prospect of actually writing poems?

If so, I can help you get started, with some suggestions and support. A poem doesn’t have to be obscure and complicated; it can be simple, about your everyday experience.

When you relax and listen to your heart, you’ll find the words flowing from your pen. And soon you’ll be pleasantly surprised that you have so much to say as you’re having fun writing poems.

FOR MORE EXPERIENCED POETS

If you have already written poems — whether you are still relatively new to it or have written for a long time — and want to bring your poems to the next level, I can help you with that as well.

I’ll work with you so that your poems will be tighter, flow better, and touch people’s hearts, or maybe make them laugh (perhaps both). Then you will feel more confident to bring your poems out into the world, to send them to literary journals and to publish a chapbook (a small collection of poems). You will feel more internally connected, and more connected to other people through sharing your poetry with them.
